Posted: 20 AprilI’m going to preface this by saying that Emily is Away is a little game that I hold very close to my heart. I played it for the first time right as I was preparing to enter my senior year of high school. If I’m being honest, it is a very flawed little experience, but a wonderful, tragic one that will resonate with and affect everyone who plays it in different ways. Most importantly though, the ending, while it had minor differences based on decisions made throughout the game, stayed generally the same. I won’t spoil it here because I DO highly recommend you all go play it. It’s free and takes about an hour and a half so why not?

This singular finale that the game was building up to may have made many people upset or even angry, but it was a realistic, heartbreaking take on young adult relationships.This is why I don’t believe that Emily is Away Too even comes close to capturing me the way the original did. This game has several different endings, and not a single one of them feels fleshed out, complete or worth my time.

By the time the game was done I had basically no feeling at all for what had happened. I just didn’t care. The game didn’t do anything to make me care. It was too ambitious and just fell short in nearly every aspect to make a relatively uninvolved experience.There are a few things I liked, like the Facenook and YouToob aspects that really made me feel as though I was put in a time machine back a decade. But it wasn’t enough to make me care about any of the characters involved.This is a hard negative for me to write because the first game means a lot to me, but I just can’t recommend this.

If you are a diehard fan of the original or are just really eager to talk to a girl (or girls) on the computer, go ahead and pick it up. It’s inexpensive and developers can always use support. But otherwise, I would just stick to the original.
